Third Research Seminar of Tsinghua-UTokyo International Collaboration on FIAVAW Project And International Forum of Microgravity Combustion Research successfully held

The Third Research Seminar of Tsinghua-UTokyo International Collaboration on FIAVAW (Flame Instabilities Affected by Vortices and Acoustic Waves) And International Forum of Microgravity Combustion Research was successfully held in the morning of April 22, 2021 (Beijing Time). Speeches were given by Dr. Yang Yang, Director of International Cooperation Center of Executive Center of CMSA, Dr. Yongbin Jiang, Director of Research & Development Affairs Office, Tsinghua University, Professor Mitsuhiro Tsue, Director of Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, The University of Tokyo, Professor Qiang Yao, Vice Director of Center for Combustion Energy, Tsinghua University. More than 1000 people from Tsinghua University, The University of Tokyo, University of Science and Technology of China, Kyushu University, Institute of Mechanics Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc., attended the seminar online. The seminar was hosted by Professor Yu Cheng Liu of Tsinghua University and Professor Shinji Nakaya from The University of Tokyo.

Six topical presentations were given in the International Forum of Microgravity Combustion Research, including “Flame extinction/instability in micro-gravity and reduced-pressure: Wire fire and turbulent jet flame“ by Prof. Longhua Hu of University of Science and Technology of China, “Progress of microgravity coal combustion & gas flame studies in Tsinghua” by Prof. Yang Zhang of Tsinghua University, “Combustion behavior of oxidatively degraded biodiesel (FAME) droplets under microgravity” by Prof. Shion Ando of Kyushu University, “An artificial activity coefficient approach for distillation and microgravity droplet vaporization” by Lei Luo of Tsinghua University, “Experimental studies on flammability of solid material in microgravity” by Prof. Feng Zhu of Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, “Multi-stage burning of microgravity droplets and non-dilute droplet clouds” by Hengyi Zhou of Tsinghua University. “Access To Space For All” was introduced by Ms. Hazuki Mori of United Nation Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) for existing resources from the United Nations for space research.

Research teams in both China and Japan had fruitful discussion on the combustion sciences under microgravity, which promotes the progress of the FIAVAW project and international collaboration and communication.
